Ricardo Fumanal, 33, was born in Huesca in rural Northern Spain in 1984. Creatively and visually oriented from a young age and yearning for a more metropolitan environment, Ricardo moved to Barcelona to study graphic design. Work experiences lead to him to a change of medium, substituting design for hand and digital illustration, notably, his illustrator career officially began with a daily collaboration with leading Spanish publication, El Mundo.
As he career grew between Barcelona and Madrid, Ricardo moved to London to further expand his portfolio. In London, the output of his work grew exponentially. He began working with creative agencies and publications on work for advertising and editorial. He also began collaborating with highly regarded fashion brands on special designs for garments and accessories. The city also brought Ricardo his first foray into the fine art world, working with acclaimed galleries on his original work and prints.
Ricardo's work is known for its hyper-realistic depictions with precise line work and tactile shading contrasted with surreal and unexpected compositions with surprising use of color. Ricardo works in ink, pencil, markers and watercolors, as well as use digital illustration to create collages and manipulations. His most recent work consists of illustrations that transform into digital animations.
Currently, Ricardo spends his time between Barcelona, London and Paris.
